Colin Westgate FRPS MFIAP MPAGB APAGB Colin Westgate has been taking photographs for over 60 years, from when he was given a basic 35mm camera for his 2lst birthday. At the time living in a small Sussex village, he was immediately drawn to the beauty of the surrounding countryside, and he has never lost his passion and enthusiasm for the landscape. He has a deep affinity for this and the wonders of nature. He finds no greater pleasure than to capture what his eye sees and his soul ‘feels’. With his images he seeks to portray the essence of his subject, whether it be the wild scenery of countries such as Iceland and Namibia, or the more gentle features of his home location in Mersea Island, Essex. "The challenge with my landscape photography is to convey my response to the subject with feeling and expression. The camera is a precision optical tool which will capably record detail, but, in itself, it cannot easily capture the photographer’s thoughts and emotions. To achieve this requires interpretation and use of various techniques when creating the final image".
