Georgina has been fascinated by jewellery and gemstones since childhood and loved looking at her mother's collection of costume and antique jewellery. Her mother was an artist illustrator who encouraged her interest in art and taught her a great deal about drawing and watercolour painting. However it was jewellery that won out! Following a Foundation level art course at Colchester School of Art (1977-79) and a B.A. Honours Degree in Jewellery Design at the Central School of Art & Design (1979-82), she set up a workshop in her Dad's old shed and has been a shed dweller for forty years. Having exhibited her jewellery at shows like Chelsea Craft Fair and Art In Action, in 1992 she was accepted as a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and its associate society, the Designer Jewellers Group. For the following three decades Georgina exhibited her Jewellery in London and countrywide, including at Goldsmiths' Hall, The V&A, The Barbican Centre and Portsmouth Museum & Art Gallery with the DJG. Her work has been featured in publications and is in private collections in the UK and abroad. Texture, pattern and contrasting finishes have always been at the heart of Georgina's designs, with accentuations of colourful gemstones. She is interested in the way light affects surfaces, creating patterns and textures by "paper pressing" silver sheet with stencils cut in watercolour paper. Drawing with silver and gold wire adds to the graphic element in her designs. Taking inspiration from many sources, including nature, she transforms her ideas into unique pieces, working in silver and gold making one-off and limited edition designs. Recently, Georgina has added bead stringing into her range for a more adventurous use of colour and affordability. Commissions are welcome and Georgina enjoys collaborating with clients, specialising in bespoke jewellery often with personal symbolism incorporated into one-off pieces.
