About Lee

Lee has lived in Essex for over 20 years and moved to East Mersea in 2022. He is a textile artist, having graduated with a Master's in Textiles, with work exhibited nationally and sold internationally. His textiles work ranges from accessories, first sold exclusively to Harvey Nichols, to framed art textile works, furnishings and large scale installation pieces, commissioned on a number of ocasions including by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, which now holds Lee's work as part of its permanent archive. Alongside his textiles practice, Lee has had a long career in fashion as a creative director, and is the founder of On|Off, an independent London, Milan and Paris Fashion Week showcase now in its third decade. He has taught at some of the country 's leading art institutions, including the Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martins, the University of Westminster and UCA, and is currently an Associate Professor and Director of Creative Partnerships at Birmingham City University. Lee's work is interdisciplinary in its approach, fusing many art forms while always returning to texture. Since moving to Mersea, he, like many others, has been drawn to its beautifull landscape and wildlife, and has begun capturing this in new textile art works. He has since embarked on a practice-led textiles art research project investigating place-based (Mersea Island) natural dyeing, material processes, and the integration of craft with contemporary digital textile techniques.
