-St. Peter & St. Paul Church- Mapping Mersea was the brainchild of local artist Vinny Stapley. Vinny led a group of textile artists local to Mersea & Abberton , consisting of professional artists and enthusiastic amateurs with mixed levels of experience varying from beginner to expert. They have spent the last year, planning, creating and piecing together a large 1.5m x 1m banner.The Ordnance Survey map of Mersea was used as the basis for the project, each group member taking one or more A4 sections and using a range of artistic techniques and styles to produce their own interpretation of each section. You will see examples of hand and machine sewing and embroidery; beading, applique, gel plate printing with acrylics, dyed fabric, drawing and watercolour painting and image transfer, amongst others. In each section you will be able to make out references to Mersea’s numerous historic events and sites.
